We live in the Age of Influencers. It’s big business. There’s an influencer for every niche from fashion and makeup to tradwife and wellness. Sprout Social reported that 86% of US marketers will partner with influencers in 2025–that’s up from almost 70% of marketers in 2021. Sprout also estimated that the total revenue of the influencer market is now $24B in 2024, a significant jump from $16.4B in 2022. In terms of actual influence,
Pew Research reported in 2024 that about 21% of Americans get their news from influencers on social media, and that’s even higher, 37%, if you are under the age of 30. The survey went into the niche category of “news influencers” 85% of them had a presence on Twitter (now X) with Instagram following at 50%. That’s a little terrifying if we think about the world of Twitter today.
So with all that money and trust, it’s no question why writers would explore the world of influencing. Jealousy and fame can do terrible things to people. There’s a lot at stake for influencers and their fans. Naturally, people start to turn up dead.
